4. MEDICAL INSURANCE

Victoria International Education (VIE) arranges medical insurance for students joining the Greater Victoria School District. VIE uses BC Medical Services and/or the private insurance company, Guard.me depending on the student’s program of study to provide adequate coverage for the student.Students on a 1-year or longer program will be placed on BC Medical Services (the provincial medical plan) which is then supplemented by Guard.me Plus.

Students registered for one-semester, a short term program or Camp Victoria will receive coverage by Guard.me.

Guard.me is a private insurance company that works with school districts across Canada to provide the most complete coverage for all international students. Please visit www.guard.me  for more information on policy coverage.

  • High School, Middle School, Elementary School Programs / Academic High School Program (ATP)

Medical insurance coverage will commence five days prior to the start of orientation and remain in effect five days after the end of the program.

Medical insurance will provide protection during the 10-month school period, as well as any portion of July and August when the student is in Victoria. Temporary cancellation of medical insurance during absences from Canada is subject to an administration fee.

  • Short-Term High School Experience Program / Camp Victoria Summer Program

Medical insurance start date will be a maximum of two days prior to the start of the program. Insurance end date will be a maximum of two days after the program ends.
