Guide: Document Requirement for Express Entry PR Application

Express Entry is Canada’s application management system for three immigration programs: the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP); Canadian Experience Class (CEC); and Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP). Candidates who have self-determined that they are eligible for Express Entry will first indicate to the Canadian government their expression of interest in obtaining Canadian permanent resident status.

Minimum Language Requirement for Express Entry Categories: CEC, FSW, FST

You must prove your language skills by taking an approved language test. To do this:

You must:

schedule your test with an agency approved by IRCC and pay the costs
enter the test results into your Express Entry profile (and the Personal Information Number, if the system asks for it)
include the results with your application if you are invited to apply. If you don’t include it, we will not process your application.

Don’t ask for your language test results to be sent directly to us. Send us your results with your complete application. Keep your original test in a safe place as we may ask for it later.

New Policy: Express Entry Category-based Selection

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has made changes to how we run rounds of invitations that may impact Express Entry profiles.

In order to help meet Canada’s economic goals, we’re introducing rounds for specific categories of Express Entry candidates. This year, we’ve established six categories:

French-language proficiency
Work experience in healthcare occupations
Work experience in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) occupations
Work experience in trade occupations
Work experience in transport occupations
Work experience in agriculture and agri-food occupations
Learn more about the categories and find out if you are eligible on IRCC’s website.

If you are eligible for any of the categories, please make sure your Express Entry profile is up-to-date to ensure you have the best possible chance to be invited to apply for permanent residence in upcoming Express Entry rounds.

New Policy: Proof of Funds – Federal Skilled Immigrants (Express Entry)

We updated the table that shows how much money you need to settle in Canada. We update these numbers every year, based on 50% of the low income cut-off totals. To stay eligible, you may need to update your settlement fund numbers in your Express Entry profile. The update must be done no later than April 25, 2023.
Updating your profile doesn’t change the date and time that we received it, so you’ll keep your rank if you’re in a tie-breaker situation.

Proof of funds is how you show us that you have enough money to settle in Canada. If we invite you to apply, you must give written proof that you have this money.
