International Post-Graduate

Do you have a graduate degree in science or engineering from an eligible B.C. institution?  The International Post-Graduate category can help you gain permanent residence in B.C. You don’t need a job offer to apply.

Eligible graduate degrees

You must have graduated in the last three years with a master’s or doctorate degree in one of the eligible programs in the following natural, applied or health sciences disciplines:

• agriculture, agriculture operations and related sciences
• biological and biomedical sciences
• computer and information sciences and support services
• engineering
• engineering technology and engineering-related fields
• health professions and related programs
• mathematics and statistics
• natural resources conservation
• physical sciences

Eligibility

To qualify for this stream, you must:

• have obtained eligible graduate-level education from an eligible program of study at a post-secondary institution in B.C. in the last three years
• have, or be eligible for, legal immigration status in Canada
• demonstrate that you have the ability and intent to live, work and economically establish in B.C.

You may be eligible to apply to this stream if you are a PhD student (in any field of study) at a public B.C. post-secondary institution.

To use the Express Entry BC option, you must have an IRCC Express Entry Profile Number and a Job Seeker Validation Code and meet the federal minimum language requirements. These indicate that you meet the eligibility criteria for one of the federal economic immigration programs subject to IRCC’s Express Entry system.

 

Programs of Study in Fields Eligible for the International Post-Graduate stream (includes Express Entry option)

The tables below identify programs of study within the natural, health and applied sciences fields that are eligible for consideration under the International Post-Graduate stream of the BC PNP.

Further details regarding the classification  of these programs of study can be found  on Statistics Canada’s  Classification  of Instructional Programs  (CIP) website. Please note that the lists below are subject to change.

Completing a program on this list does not guarantee a nomination under the International Post- Graduate stream. Inclusion  on this list only means that a program is in an eligible  field of study and is (or has been) offered by an authorized British Columbia  institution. Your program must also meet all other requirements of the International Post-Graduate categories as listed in the BC PNP Skills  Immigration and Express  Entry  BC Program  Guide. For example,  your education will not  be eligible  if it is a “distance education learning program.” A distance education learning program means a program of study in which the majority of the credits earned by the student toward the completion of a program of study were earned by completing online courses.

Prospective students  should also note that inclusion  on this list does not necessarily mean that a program is currently offered.  To confirm the current status of  a program, consult the post- secondary institution that offers it.

Public Post-Secondary Institutions

Doctoral level programs at public post-secondary institutions

There are no restrictions on field of study for doctoral degrees that have been completed at public post-secondary institutions in British Columbia. However, regulatory or professional doctorates, such as Juris Doctor (J.D.) and Doctor of Medicine (M.D.), are not eligible.
