February 25, 2016 – Ottawa, ON -Today, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Minister John McCallum introduced legislation to amend the Citizenship Act,providing greater flexibility for applicants trying to meet the requirements for citizenship and help immigrants obtain citizenship faster.

An Act to Amend the Citizenship Act was introduced on February 25. The changes in the proposed legislation would provide greater flexibility for applicants trying to meet the requirements for citizenship, and help immigrants obtain citizenship faster. They would also repeal provisions of the Citizenship Act that allow citizenship to be revoked from dual citizens who engage in certain acts against the national interest. Additional changes are also proposed to further enhance program integrity.

Functional guidance on Quebec economic programs now modernized

The information that was contained in the following manual chapters can now be found in the permanent resident section of the program delivery instructions:
  • OP 7a: Quebec skilled workers
  • OP 8, section 10, Entrepreneurs destined to Quebec
  • OP 8, section 11.8, Processing self-employed applicants destined for Quebec
  • OP 9, section 13, Procedure: Investors destined to Quebec
As part of this update, additional instructions have been added regarding how to request a renewal of a Certificat de sélection du Québec, specifically concerning which email address to use and what information to include in the request.

 

Citizenship Instrument of Delegation now available to the public

Summary

The Citizenship Instrument of Delegation, previously available for staff only, has now been made available to the public on the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada website.
