However, high inflation, rising interest rates, and supply chain problems resulted in turbulence in our labour market over the summer.”

Temporary Increase in Work Hours for International Students

Generally, most study permit holders are authorized to work off-campus on a part-time basis (20 hours per week) during an academic session. This includes an ability to work on a full-time basis during regularly scheduled breaks (e.g., summer holidays).

Under Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada’s (IRCC) new temporary public policy, most study permit holders are now permitted to work more than 20 hours per week during an academic session between November 15, 2022 and December 31, 2023, if they meet the eligibility criteria.

2023 New Application Process for Home Child Care Provider and Home Support Worker Pilot

As part of efforts to modernize Canada’s immigration system and improve client service, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is transitioning to 100% online applications for most permanent immigration programs.

Since March 31, 2021, some clients have been able to apply online for permanent immigration programs through the Permanent Residence Portal. The portal has been expanded and is currently open to most permanent residence program applicants.

Restoration of Temporary Resident Status

If a temporary resident has lost their status (section 47 of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act [IRPA]) or let their authorization to work or study expire, they may apply to restore that status in accordance with section 182 of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations (IRPR).

It is important to note that since status and authorization are not the same under the IRPA, an applicant can only restore their status to that of a temporary resident and to the authorization that they held immediately prior to the restoration application. As an example, a student who lost their status cannot apply to restore temporary resident status with authorization to work.

Employee Reference Letter and Letter of Employment

What these three letters have in common is that they all need to come from your employer. Aside from that, there are several differences between them. a reference letter is like a letter of employment, but it’s more detailed and discusses whether you’re an exemplary employee. There are many times you may need a letter of employment, such as when you’re renting or buying a house. It’s a method of proving you have consistent income, so your employer needs to verify that you work for them. To do this, you need to send a detailed request to the right person in your company.

Temporary Public Policy to Facilitate the Issuance of an Open Work Permit to Former or Current PGWP Holders

IRCC recognizes the effects on the Canadian labour market and on PGWP holders when the department paused the invitations to apply for federal high-skilled streams under Express Entry (including federal skilled workers, federal skilled trades and Canadian experience class). Under this temporary public policy, we are introducing measures so that eligible PGWP holders can apply for a new open work permit that would be valid for up to 18 months. This public policy will be in effect until December 31, 2022.
