um we do require that information um in english so it is uh an additional expense that um that that applicants do have to consider when they are applying is actually getting that that information professionally translated uh next slide please so this just kind of gives you a bit of a picture in terms of what it looks like to put in an application um so we received the application um the assess the the applicants um assessed on their suitability to practice um if they meet the requirements the certificate is issued if they don’t meet um requirements they get a what we call an assessment decision letter um which basically outlines the denial the reasons for the denial um at that point the the applicant can and typically our adls will outline the areas um where of the program that that weren’t um covered in the course content that we reviewed um and so at that point we we typically lay out for the applicant the options available to them which may be contacting a an ece a recognized ece training program here in bc and they are able to take additional courses at that point and then they’re able to come back to us and apply it again um should they choose if they believe that the decision was incorrect or that they have you know information that we haven’t reviewed um they may decide to put in a reconsideration and could go to appeal at that stage if they wish um

so so basically yeah we’re we’re reviewing the application once it once it comes in um we are verifying most of the information by and possibly contact contacting references and educational institutions to confirm that the information is correct um and what what what we’ve received is adequate

i guess just in terms of this assessment of the suitability so so this is kind of a key piece eces and ece assistants often work alone um with potentially up to eight children for extended periods of time um they may have you know limited administration there may be sort of you know few colleagues if if any in some cases um and children at this you know children are at their most vulnerable at this at this age and stage um and often unable really to to fully articulate for themselves what’s happening to them you know to them in their life um and so you know so so it’s really critical that that we’ve made sure that that anybody who is coming in to do this type of work you know has been uh rendered to be to be suitable for this type of this type of work um and eces are obviously obviously often the mo the first people that children have contact with outside their home so we certainly see our role in kind of looking through all of these aspects as as kind of a critical piece to make sure that we’ve ensured those those folks have all of the skills knowledge and ability in order to do the work appropriately.

so that’s really the end of my presentation i will um sort of encourage you to take a look at the ece registry website um when when you have an opportunity it is new this year um it does include a lot more information particularly about the equivalency process than um than it it did in the past there is information there about the fee waivers that i mentioned in the presentation um and there are um new sections in there uh for anybody who who does go looking um basically you’d be looking for the sort of find your pathway um stage go to the section that says i completed my education in another country and it’ll basically walk you through and it actually shows you excuse me a specific pathway and it explains kind of step by step all of the information that’s going to be required as part of that that equivalency application um so i think i will stop there shannon and turn it back to you
