CIC News
September 19, 2015 – Scarborough, ON

The Government of Canada today announced additional measures to deal with the humanitarian crisis emanating from Syria and Iraq. It is also making it easier for Canadians to take action.
Ottawa, September 16, 2015
The Government of Canada will seek leave to appeal to the Supreme Court of Canada in the Ishaq case.

CIC Backgrounders
Changes announced today will help Canadians who are sponsoring persons fleeing the crisis in Syria and Iraq.
Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) has put in place temporary measures to accelerate the processing of applications to sponsor Syrian and Iraqi refugees.
The Government will speed up processing and issue visas to more Syrian refugees by the end of this year.

Program delivery updates
As a result of the recent decision of the Federal Court of Appeal (Minister of Citizenship and Immigration v. Ishaq), changes are being made to the instructions related to the Oath of Citizenship. As a temporary measure, a notice has been added to the relevant pages to indicate that some instructions concerning being seen taking the Oath of Citizenship during a public ceremony are no longer current and will be updated shortly.
Minor updates have been made to clarify instructions, fix grammatical and technical errors, and amend language.
