  • More than $2 million of Early Learning and Child Care Agreement funding supported bursaries for the winter 2022 semester, and as much as $2.7 million has been disbursed to summer 2022 semester students.
  • Bursaries are a key tool to support the Province’s ECE Recruitment and Retention Strategy to meet existing and future workforce demands for this rewarding and in-demand career.
  • Through federal and provincial investments, British Columbia has surpassed 30,500 new child care spaces funded since the launch of ChildCareBC.
  • The Government of Canada made a transformative investment to build a Canada-wide Early Learning and Child Care system in partnership with provincial, territorial and Indigenous partners. This includes a historic federal investment of $3.2 billion for British Columbia.

Public post-secondary institutions with 176 additional early childhood educator (ECE) spaces in B.C.:

  • Capilano University (in partnership with Métis Nation BC and Kwantlen Polytechnic University), Lower Mainland – 50 student spaces;
  • Capilano University, Sunshine Coast – 40 student spaces;
  • College of New Caledonia – 10 additional student spaces;
  • College of The Rockies – 22 additional student spaces;
  • Langara College – 30 additional student spaces;
  • Okanagan College – 12 additional student spaces; and
  • Selkirk College – 12 additional student spaces.
